Scenic Rush: A Successful First Year

And so concludes the first year of Scenic Rush!  What a spectacular year it has been! We have been truly humbled by all of the amazing feedback we have received in person, on Facebook and especially on TripAdvisor.

Our goal was to get into the top 10 “Things to Do” in Vancouver.  As of today, we are ranked #5! We are so thankful to everyone who took the time to offer feedback and positive comments.

THE YEAR IN REVIEW

The idea for Scenic Rush was hatched in September 2013 on a trip to Las Vegas for Bryan’s birthday with a group of friends.  We had a blast driving exotic cars through Red Rock Canyon and Bryan said “Why don’t we do something like this in Vancouver… we’ve got the Sea to Sky Highway!”  After several months of research and planning, Scenic Rush was quickly becoming a reality.  We just needed four exotic cars… no big deal!  (Yeah right!)

We originally hoped to be up and running by late Spring or early Summer.  But starting a new business is always a little harder and takes a little longer than you originally plan for.  So with Summer fast approaching, and still lots of work to do, we were faced with an important decision; wait until next year for a big launch or do a soft launch over a shortened season.  We opted for the latter so we could slowly build the Scenic Rush brand and gain traction in a controlled manner.

In May, we acquired our first vehicle; a beautiful 2007 Ferrari F430 Spider in Rosso Corsa from a local dealership in Richmond. Suddenly, there was no turning back. The dream of Scenic Rush was coming alive in a very tangible way.

The acquisition of the Ferrari came just in time for our first public appearance at the Cloverdale Rodeo.  We managed to sell a few rides (although much less than we hoped for) and circled July 1 as our first day of operations.  A couple more car shows and some social media buzz helped us get the word out and generate a few more bookings.  There was a LOT of excitement about Scenic Rush, but not a lot of bookings yet.  They would come, we assured ourselves.

As Canada Day fast approached, we quickly put together the rest of our amazing fleet; an elegant Daytona Grey Audi R8 from Alberta, then a quick road trip to Kamloops to pick up a Super Silver Nissan GT-R (which beat out the Porsche 911 Turbo in a vote) and finally the Orange Pearl Gallardo LP560-4 from Lamborghini Vancouver.

After a slight delay to sort out some final insurance issues, Scenic Rush opened for business on July 10, 2014!  The month of July was, for a lack of better words, very slow.  Word was getting out, but the bookings weren’t flying in.

Then The Province newspaper sent a team out to do a story on us! On August 1, we woke up to see our beautiful fleet pictured on the FRONT PAGE! The phone started ringing that very day!  More media outlets would follow, and soon Scenic Rush was being featured on CTV News, The North Shore News, Inside Vancouver and on CityTV’s Breakfast Television.   Scenic Rush was causing quite a buzz around town!

After a busy August and September, thanks largely to the GREAT weather, we started wrapping things up in early October.  And then the rain came.  Perfect timing!

THE OFF-SEASON

As we head into late Fall and Winter, there are many things on our agenda.  From selling Gift Certificates for Christmas to setting up corporate partnerships, it will be a very busy time for us, and an important time for building our brand.

A PREVIEW FOR NEXT YEAR

We already have many exciting things planned for 2015!  From new experiences to new vehicles, Scenic Rush is sure to bring even more excitement to Vancouver.  And we CAN’T WAIT to do it!

The entire experience has been a dream come true for both of us!

See you next year!

Thom & Bryan
